The New Barnes and Noble NOOKcolor in Review

If you are looking for a full-color eReader with the ability to display color materials as well as standard black and white, then the NOOKcolor is definitely an eReader you should consider. Perfect for the avid reader who enjoys magazines as well as novels, or the student looking for a more compact and portable manner for accessing their textbooks, the NOOKcolor comes with many additional features.

Readers have asked for a better touch screen interface and the designers of the device heeded the call. Unlike the original Nook, the 7 inch screen is also a very good touch screen interface. The interface is highly responsive, although it can be disrupted by fingerprints. I recently discovered this during a game of Sodoku, which happens to come pre-installed.

The NOOKcolor's organization is automatic and most readers will be happy with the library features that catalog books according to title, author or genre.

Speaking of games, many of the ads for the device stress the fact that it has an Android operating system. This is true, but perhaps a bit misleading. The Android OS is a hybrid of Android 2.1, meaning that the device cannot take advantage of the Android Marketplace or any of the previously designed applications. There is a developer toolkit available and Barnes and Noble says applications will be available soon.

This is not a downfall for those who intent to use the eReader as it was intended, to read books. The interface and display are excellent for anyone who wants a high quality LCD display that offers brilliant color and crisp text. Of course, LCD screens are linked to eyestrain and are not effective for use in bright sunshine. Also, battery life is known to be affected by LCD screens. The device offers excellent battery life, however.

The device does not have built in 3G and relies on a WiFi connection to enable users to purchase or download books to the device. There is a built in beta version web browser that provides access to the internet where a WiFi connection is available. Other eReaders come with built in 3G networking, but with the wide availability of wireless networks it is not really necessary.

In which I call stores to find out how many copies of SISTERS RED they'd be carrying. I started out with the local stores, but then got curious about faraway stores...and before I realized what was happening, I was on the phone with Montana. And Nevada. And Hawaii. Also, the May contest!

The Past Cannot Be Changed, But Today Can

Today/Now you can change your view of your past, and this changes the vibrations you attach to your past. Changing yourself requires deprogramming. Japanese Usui Reiki deprogramming is one of the gentlest and most effective ways of making those changes today/Now/in the present moment that touch yesterday and tomorrow. You can think deprogramming is for cults and wars, or you can think of it as commonly used in the everyday brainwashing that often causes depression and physical illnesses. You can brainwash yourself quite easily.

I will use person X as an example of every day brainwashing. You might find that person X sounds a lot like you. As a young person X was told s/he never listened, always procrastinated, and always wanted ridiculous things. Schoolteachers added to the list of things X did wrong, and X added by saying I am such a fool. Then from a spouse it was "X you never know what you are talking about, and you never do anything right". From children it was, "I wish you were nice like the other kids' parents". X began thinking I never know what is good for anyone. Good things were said to X, but all the negative combined over time formed a block so that the positive things were not heard.

Did the story of X grab your attention? Often times blocks keeps a person from enjoying the good things in life. Blocks can cause physical and mental symptoms that medical doctors say they can find no reason for sometimes appear as well. The removal of those blocks is the change that happens with the deprogramming or rewriting of the old tapes. Deprogramming can create balance, and what is in balance begins to heal.

Japanese styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho styles such as Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki have numerous techniques that bring balance to the mind, body, and spirit and surround with harmony. The healing of Reiki might appear mysterious, but what is in balance and surrounded by harmony heals naturally. Life takes on a new look when everything is in balance and surrounded with harmony. You cannot learn Reiki from a book or video, but in today's world there are many qualified Reiki Shihans (master/teachers) with an energy and technique lineage back to Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Usui Reiki Ryoho, commonly shortened to Reiki, is the name Mikao Usui gave to the vibration of combined universal love and harmony he connected to in 1921. Can you think of any more powerful energies then love and harmony? Then go one step further and think of all the love and harmony that has been collecting and building in the universe since before the beginning of time. Now imagine those two powerful energies combined. Neither a Reiki Shihan nor Reiki practitioner diagnoses or promises a cure, but Reiki goes to the core of the imbalances. From the center of each cell, it shines like a flashlight healing from the inside out.

Reiki as with anything natural does not quickly mask symptoms or produce what we might think is a cure. Health and happiness is just like each of us in that it is unique to each person. Regardless, when Reiki is allowed to flow over time balance happens. The negative that has taken years to cause imbalances in the mind, body, or spirit requires time to replace with positive.

If you are still wondering about a deprogramming session or a session that balances, from a qualified Reiki Shihan or Reiki practitioner it is a very relaxing experience. You are always in control regardless of the ultimate relaxation you experience, you never have to be exposed to alcohol or smoke, you do not have to eat or drink anything special before of after a session, and you are not lost floating in left field as with some medications/drugs. Reiki does not replace professional licensed medical care, but it complements all other healing modalities as it balances and surrounds with harmony. What is in balance and with harmony heals.

In my college psychology 101 I read that humans do not have instincts, but have learned or imprinted behavior. While I believe we do have some instincts I also believe that often the imprinted behavior we acquire happens when we are looking the other way. Pulling your hand back from a flame or ducking as an object comes toward you are learned behaviors to help keep you safe. Unfortunately, some reactions you blend into your everyday life might not be helpful to your well-being. If you have ever seen the five simple lines of the Gokai (five Reiki precepts or principles), it might make you think that Reiki is too simple to be good. If you are reading one of the manuals my Reiki Shihans or I have written you will find that each of those very short simple lines requires more then a paragraph to describe in depth. Mikao Usui's spiritual practice is simple yet profound. Some of the simplest things in life are the most beautiful.

Reiki does not require any elaborate rituals or any material objects to give it strength. Reiki practitioners spend endless hours learning with his or her Shihan (teacher) and practicing. A Reiki Shihan has completed at least four levels or degrees in whatever style of Usui Reiki Ryoho she or he practices. Within each of the first three levels of Reiki, numerous hours are spent learning and practicing exercises and techniques; exercises and techniques that help to balance mind, body, and spirit thus bringing the complete person to a natural state of well-being.

Living in Maine, in the United Stated I began by studying styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho commonly practiced in North America. I then learned the simple yet very strong Japanese Reiki techniques of Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki from Hiroshi Doi and Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto, who each have only two teachers between themselves and Mikao Usui. I also learned how nature and Reiki complement each other. You can find more about some of the Shihans I have studied with and the various things I teach on my website, www.naturalhealinglearning.com

Barnes And Noble Brat

www.feedyourmonster.com A little kid has a temper tantrum in Barnes And Noble Bookstore. On a scale of 1 to 10, what I captured in this videos is a 2 compared to what he was doing before I started filming. There were even other kids in the store who looked on in silent horror as he "flipped out!" Chances are that he is actually a good kid but this is what happens when parents drag their kids around all day without feeding them, giving them anything to drink and not giving them time for a nap.

Lose Tummy Fat Fast With These Two Gut Busting Exercises

Are you ready to finally lose tummy fat fast? Take just a few short minutes out of your busy day to read this quick article to learn about two powerful exercises that will help you lose tummy fat fast!

Okay, firstly I want to address two common misconceptions before I talk about those two powerful exercises.

Misconception #1- You can JUST lose tummy fat. You can not spot reduce body fat. When you lose tummy fat, you're also losing TOTAL body fat. There's nothing wrong with that, is it?

Misconception #2- Exercises is all you need to do to lose fat. Nope! There are a few more principles than just exercises that you're going to have to know in order to lose tummy fat. Those principles are drinking plenty of water daily (1/2 your body weight in ounces), sleep (7-8 hours every night), and the most important of them all, proper nutrition (protein, complex carbs such as whole grains, fiber, healthy fats such as monounsaturated, and foods rich in vitamins and minerals).

Now that you understand the other important principles you have to add into your daily diet and fitness plan, let's talk about those two gut busting exercises.

High Intensity Cardio: This type of cardio exercise is much more effective at burning off stubborn fat such as your tummy. This is because the more intense your workout, the more you're body will tap into stored fat as opposed to just carbs from the foods you've recently ate. Two examples of high intensity cardio would be the incline treadmill and sprinting.

Compound Weight Training: Compound weight training is exercising utilizing your large muscle groups (legs, chest, back). When you focus on doing compound weight training, you'll burn off more calories much more faster. Examples would be squats, lunges, bench press, and deadlifts.

So, make sure you understand and follow the other important principles mentioned above, do those two types of exercises above, and get a customized diet plan based off of your body type, and you will lose tummy fat and TOTAL body fat in no time!

TWU Summer Reading Program Partners with Barnes and Noble

The TWU chapter of the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), in partnership with the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Denton, conducted a community summer reading program for children from 11 am until noon each Wednesday. Dr. Ann Stuart, chancellor of Texas Woman's University, was a "guest reader" on July 14, 2010 for the community summer reading program hosted by the TWU chapter of the ATPE. The program began with 15 children in its first week, but has grown to more than 50. Though most in the group are ages 4 to 7, Dr. Rebecca Fredrickson, an assistant professor of curriculum and instruction at TWU, said a group of junior high students attending the event has begun taking turns reading to each other. "They've modeled what we're doing," she said. "It's exciting to see a passion for reading build." Sessions include a story and reading-related activities developed by TWU preservice teaching students (those who have not yet begun classroom student teaching). "This is an opportunity for our students to grow professionally as well as volunteer their time by serving to promote literacy in our community," Dr. Fredrickson said. "Barnes & Noble has been a wonderful partner in this venture."

Lose 10 Pounds in 3 Weeks With This Eating Trick!

The secret to weight loss begins and ends with proper nutrition....period. If you want to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks, take a few minutes to read this quick article to learn about a simple eating trick to reach your goals fast!

When you first begin on any type of diet and fitness plan, it's important to understand the core principles of a healthy lifestyle first.

The core principles of a healthy lifestyle are proper nutrition (protein, healthy fats such as monounsaturated and omega, complex carbs such as whole grains, fiber, and foods rich in vitamins/minerals), drink plenty of water daily (I recommend for you to drink 1/2-1 gallon), get plenty of sleep every night (no less than 7 and no more than 8 hours), cardio exercise (high intensity will provide you with the best results to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks), and weight training exercise.

Now that you've got a good idea of what you should eat daily as mentioned above, now let's talk about HOW you should eat daily. One of the ways to lose pounds and burn fat is by boosting your metabolism. One of the ways you can boost your metabolism is by keeping your digestive active. How can you keep your digestive system active? It's simple....eat frequently through out the day!

The way you do it is first start with breakfast (never skip breakfast), and eat a small healthy meal every 2-3 hours. Make sure you get protein and fiber with each meal. By making sure you get protein with each meal, you are making sure that you will be building lean muscle, and with getting fiber with each meal, you will not only be more full through out the day, eating fiber also helps with keeping your digestive system active.

So, start eating more frequently through out the day, boost your metabolism, and you can lose up to 10 pounds in 3 weeks provided you follow a smart diet and exercise plan!

2 Easy Ways to Shrink Your Waistline and Get Curves!

If you want to shrink your waistline and get curves, it boils down to a few things you must incorporate into your daily life in order to see results. Read on to learn more.

1. Proper nutrition - Okay, you're going to start with nutrition. Proper nutrition is the backbone of any diet for weight loss and fat loss.

What does proper nutrition consist of?

What to eat? Protein, fiber, complex carbs, healthy fats (monounsaturated, Omega), and foods rich in vitamins and minerals.
How much to eat? Eat the amount of calories your body is supposed to receive based off of your current weight. So, if you are supposed to get 1800 calories daily, make sure you do so. Reducing calories will cause your metabolism to slow down.
How to eat? I recommend that you eat 5-6 small healthy meals daily instead of the usual 3. Doing this will keep your digestive system active and therefore will cause a boost in your metabolism.

2. Exercise - The best type of exercise to shrink your waistline and get curves is high intensity workouts. Some examples of high intensity workouts would be:

Incline treadmill - Set the speed to 3.0 and the incline to 10-15 degrees and workout for just 15-20 minutes....that's it! This workout is incredibly intense and will get your heart rate up, help boost your metabolism, burn fat, and definitely shrink your waistline.
Lunges - If you want to develop a firm butt, curvy slim thighs, and burn fat.....then lunges are perfect for you. Before doing this or any other type of workout, make sure you stretch to allow your muscles to develop properly and ensure the workout is going to be effective.

Remember, nutrition should be the backbone of your plan to shrink your waistline and get curves.

Amazon Kindle Vs Barnes and Noble Nook

With so many new electronic gadgets coming out, many consumers are confused about the difference between similar devices. The explosive popularity of e-book readers particularly raises the question of which is best. For under $200, the two most prominent are Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook. Although other readers are available, these two being from large companies, have monopolized the market in their price range. The recent challenge of the iPad has opened the door to tough competition, but if you just want a small, light weight and affordable e-reader, Kindle and Nook still hold great appeal.

E-readers are more than just a fad. More and more, people are turning to e-readers as a replacement for their printed counterparts. No more ink on your hands or having to bring in the paper when the weather is bad.

Having come out first, Amazon Kindle has several advantages over Nook. Kindle has a real keyboard and is easier to navigate than Nook. Moreover, Kindle has crisper text for easier reading, weighs two ounces less and even outlasts the battery life of Nook by four days! The Kindle screen is also well suited for reading even in bright sunshine.

Despite these great features, Kindle is not without its limitations. If you're a big gamer for example, Nook would certainly be a better way to go. Moreover, Nook provides more free options and allows e-book sharing among friends for 14 days. Nook is also a good alternative to the significantly higher priced iPad. Although even Nook cannot compete with all of iPad's features, at well less than half the price, it provides a good value for those looking beyond basic e-reader functionality.

Both Kindle and Nook support a wide range of e-books. Although Amazon Kindle still supports more, both provide great entertainment and a means for exercising your brain more than television.

In the end, what it really comes down to is personal preference. While some may prefer the extra bells and whistles and slightly more slender feel of the Nook, others will go with the easier reading and superior navigation control of the Kindle. Although Nook may outdo Kindle in the gaming department, for true e-book reading, Kindle still out-shines its closest competitor.

Stocking the Kitchen For Convenient and Healthy Family Meals

A well-stocked kitchen can make the decision between cooking a healthy meal at home or running out for fast food or take-out. Here are some staples for the pantry that should always be on the grocery list and in your kitchen, so preparing snacks and planning meals is simple and convenient.

For the Refrigerator
Pre-cooked chicken and meats - already grilled or steamed. Ready to add to pasta, salads, stews, stir frys, and fajitas.

Pre-cut vegetables and fruits - found in the fresh produce section of supermarket. Veggies are perfect for stir frys and pastas. Fruits are ready for snacking, salads or smoothies.

Shredded cheeses - found in the cheese or deli section of supermarket. Great way to save time when making your favorite Italian and Mexican dishes.

Fresh dips and salsas - found in cheese and meat sections of supermarket. Can spice up sandwiches, raw vegetables, crackers, pasta, and baked potatoes. Store in freezer or refrigerator for last minute get-togethers, meals and snacks.

Pizza and bread dough - found in the freezer or refrigerator section of supermarket. Let each family member create their own meal with lots of healthy topping options.

Dairy Products
Choose pasteurized, whole milk and dairy products for those under 5 years old. Some pediatricians say to cut back on whole milk products as young as 3 years old, and introduce low and skim milk options. Be sure to check dates on packages to be sure you're getting the freshest and longest lasting.

Yogurt - particularly plain yogurt which you can add your own fruit and purees. For those under one year, be sure the yogurt is made from whole milk and active cultures. Soy yogurt is an option for those who are lactose intolerant. Plain yogurt is also a good base for salad dressings, smoothies, sauces and a healthy alternative to sour cream for topping baked potatoes, and Mexican foods.

Milk - you may have a few different types of milk (whole, low fat and non-fat) for family members based on age and diet. Soy and rice milk are also good alternatives, especially for those with allergies and lactose intolerance. Have on hand for drinking, making smoothies and baking.

Cheeses - soft cream cheese makes great dips and spreads for all ages. Adding calcium to your family's diet is as easy as sprinkling fresh parmesan over pastas and vegetables. Cheddar cheese is always welcome for sandwiches and homemade macaroni and cheese. Cottage, ricotta and goat cheeses can be part of a healthy meal or snack. Pre-shredded and grated cheeses are very convenient for Italian and Mexican favorites.

Eggs - eggs can make all kinds of quick meals by themselves - omelets, egg salad, frittatas and quiches. Some kids think "breakfast for dinner" is a fun family meal. Choose cage free and organic for the least exposure to harmful bacteria.

For the Freezer
Fresh is usually best for taste and nutrients, however frozen can be convenient stand-by. Frozen items such as peas and blueberries make convenient finger foods for older babies and toddlers. Frozen poultry, meats and fish will create all kinds of meals.

Don't forget to use the freezer for left-overs and storage to create your own convenient "frozen dinners". Your baby's purees, as well as sauces and broths store beautifully in ice cube trays and zip top bags.

For the Pantry
Dried Foods
Bread, grains and pastas are good sources of carbohydrates that can be the basis for a quick and healthy meal. Some dried beans and legumes require more cooking time and preparation but are economical and healthy.

Pasta - this can be any shape or size, so you're ready to make spaghetti, lasagna, macaroni and cheese, udon, and soups. Best choices are egg-less noodles for those under 12 months and wheat semolina for those over 12 months.

Dried Grains - these include couscous, quinoa, polenta and risotto. These make good side dishes to meats and fish dishes as well as appropriate main dish with steamed vegetables or stews. A good staple for Indian and Mediterranean dishes.

Beans and legumes - these include lentils, red kidney beans, garbanzo beans, black beans, and white beans. You're prepared for healthy dips such as hummus and black bean, as well as side dishes, soups and salads.

Breads - including pita, multi-grain, lavosh, bagels, and tortillas. Different breads allow for various stuffings. Create healthy pizzas, burritos, wraps, sandwiches and more.

Rice - infant rice for first meals and to mix in with vegetable and fruit purees. Brown rice makes a good and healthy companion for Asian stir fry, and Mexican dishes.

Dried fruits - these are great healthy snacks alone, as well as good mix-ins for yogurt, granola, oatmeal, and cottage cheese.

Breakfast cereals - these include muesli, granola, low sugar cereals, oat bran, wheat germ, and oatmeal. It's also easy to make your own cereal mix by simply combining your favorite grains such as rolled oats, toasted wheat germ, and oat bran with dried fruit.

Canned and Jarred Foods
Some canned foods are high in fat, sodium and sugar, but many are also high in nutritional value. Check the labels to identify those with the least additives. These include: light tuna in water, organic natural nut butters, all-fruit spread, beans, and tomatoes. Be sure to thoroughly rinse canned beans and vegetables to eliminate extra sodium and oils. Remember low sodium broths and stocks for poaching and boiling meats and vegetables, as well as creating your own soups.

Condiments and Spices
A good supply of bottled sauces, condiments, oils, herbs and spices will allow for lots of creativity. Ingredients such as naturally brewed soy sauce, mustards, ketchup, salad dressings, tomato paste, and Worcheshire give flavor to many dishes as well as create many dips and sandwich spread options.
Use healthy oils such as olive and canola for cooking and baking as well as preparing dressings and marinades. Vinegars such as balsamic are also a good way to add flavor. Remember to refrigerate after opening.

Herbs and spices are best when fresh, but even dried can wake-up a boring food. If possible buy whole herbs and grind them yourself (a clean coffee grinder works well) for maximum flavor.
